Bankruptcy

Bankruptcy? That’s Hott.

Google Zeitgeist 2006 is a fascinating read. Says Google:

A year’s worth of search speaks to our collective consciousness, and 2006 is no exception. To compile these year-end lists and graphs, we reviewed a variety of the most popular search terms that people typed into Google.

If you don’t mind, I’d rather ignore the fact that Paris “That’s Hott” Hilton is the most often searched-for individual. Particularly interesting to me is this result: Bankruptcy is the 6th most often searched term for Google News this year. The top most requested “how-to” search? How to refinance.

The conclusions are obvious: despite proclamations from the White House of “strong economy” people continue to be concerned about their debt loads, how to meet their financial obligations, and whether their rights under the bankruptcy laws are still available to them. They are indeed, and it’s my resolution for 2007 to do my part to get the word out: bankruptcy is alive and well, despite the fact that it’s more complex and subject to one badly written law.
